Well, here I am with another card colored, cut, designed and assembled in just 4 days!
And I'm already thinking about what I want to do next (though my crafting time will be greatly limited in the coming week). I never knew card making was so addictive!
As I continue to learn how my Copics work (I picked up my first Sketchers 4 months ago), I tend to choose something that will challenge me further - be it the subject or the color scheme. This time, though the hair in this image is daunting to say the least, that was not my conscious challenge, the color was my challenge.
I had done a little bit of white before, a glimpse of a T-shirt here, a ball of kitty fur there, but it was never the central color in the image. That's why when Saturated Canary issued a "Show Us Your Lovely" Challenge I just knew I had to do that gorgeous gown in all white. If for no other reason than to see if I could. What do you think?
The sketch comes from The Sketchy Challenges and is by Kylie Keuter.
I had never followed a sketch before so this was a new experience for me as well.
I thought it would look too busy with all of those layers, which is one of the reasons I decided not to do any embossing on this one, but I'm really quite fond of the way it turned out. I'd even go out on a limb to say I'll probably use this basic layout again in the future.
The color choices come from the current Black With 2 Challenge.
The "With 2" are Mocha Browns and Sugared Pinks. I'm hoping the white dress doesn't disqualify me as white isn't really a color and therefore shouldn't count.
This was another challenge for me as I'm not a big fan of brown, and normally wouldn't
pair it with black, but again I'm pleased with the results.
I applied small drops of Glossy Accents to the dots in her dress and covered them with Glamour Dust. It's hard to see in the picture but it sparkles so nicely - you don't even have to turn the card to see it. I like that the dotted dress peeks through below her waist and then again at the bottom of the dress (as well as the bodice of course), it gives a nice balance of "sparkle., broken up by sections of smooth creamy white fabric.
I cut the image out and positioned it so that the words "Live, laugh, love" were clearly
visible next to her hair. "True love stories" can also be seen.
I thought the center image rectangle was just crying out for a tag so when I adhered it to the card I placed the pop dots (Recollection's Squares, actually) along the bottom and up both sides giving me a handy, sturdy, little pocket.
I left the tag blank this time so it could be used for more than one occasion. The butterflies on the tag are from a roll of Washi Tape and are glued on.
I placed the lower butterfly following the line of the dress and the upper butterfly was placed following, not only the curve the oval but also the dark pink circle to the left. The top butterfly also helps to highlight the "Live, laugh, love" text.
I faux pierced the papers with my brown Sakura Micron .01 pen.
All of the elements and the colors seem to tie together nicely in this section. The swirl of her hair is echoed in the pink paper and the "L" in the Metal Love Charm.

Edited to Add:
I forgot to mention that I used Tim Holtz Antique Linen to distress the oval text in the center.
